They took one of the most important PC titles and made a real mess of it. I've been pretty unhappy about what's happened to SimCity. Their only remedy if they want to punish you is to shut down your access to SimCity online, which obviously you don't care about, and not the entire Origin account. It's clearly illegal for them to tie the overall Origin service to a single purchase in dispute like this.
If EA decides to punish you by shutting down access to other Origin games you've purchased, call a lawyer to get in on the class action suit. When they refuse, you simply call your credit card company and reverse the charge. send them a written email documenting your expectation that they refund your money due to the failure of the SimCity servers to provide the service purchased.
